Kennels: The Design Process
Over time, I have come to realize that many of my clients don’t really know what they want in a kennel. Some don’t understand what amenities they need, or even, what options are available. When you start to build a new home, idea books and plans are available in any bookstore to get you started—not so for building a new kennel.
For this reason, in 2009, I developed a 54 page workbook to make the process easier. In July, of 2011, I completely rewrote that book, replacing it with a new 118 page book, available in both hard and soft cover, that begins by explaining the material choices that are available. Next, it explains the design process, and then it shows 30 plans that offer many ideas that you might consider for your new facility. There are kennels, small to large, and kennels for many different uses: private and public boarding kennels, military and police kennels, animal shelters, grooming and retail areas, adoption centers, veterinarian clinics, and more, each offering ideas that you might incorporate into your new kennel. Make notes of what is important to you, and HIGHLIGHT what you want to incorporate in your new kennel.
"I certainly understand that spending thousands of dollars for a new kennel facility is a huge undertaking, but getting the design wrong is a great loss. If this design book helps you ‘get it right’, well that was certainly money well spent."—Craig L. McAllester
